Welcome to the Team Ohio Athlete's Page

Dear Past, Present, and Prospective Team Ohio Member,

As you may know by now, the National Kidney Foundation as pulled out of the 2012 Games, which left us very little time to plan 2012 Games.  However, the Games will continue, with the major improvement of the athletes being in total control of the 2012 Games.  We are able to implemented changes to make it easier for more financially able for more transplant athletes to participate.  Team Ohio has steadily produced over 50 athletes at every Transplant Game and we need to meet or exceed that number, especially with the 2012 Games being held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the end of July, 2012.

Unlike previous fund raising activities, Team Ohio will not be sharing their net proceeds with any parent organization!!!  Team Ohio has received control of the TAFI (Transplant Athletes Foundation, Inc) 501(c)(3), so Team Ohio, will be in total control.

Registration fees are LOWER than previous Games, which will make participation more affordable to more athletes.  Proceeds will be used to offset the expenses for the athletes, and will not be collected and returned to you at pennies on the dollar.

You also will not have to pay the large fees for 'uniforms' as you did in previous Games.

Hotel and motel accommodations will began at about $85 per room, and also dorms will be available at an even lower rate.

Since the National Kidney Foundation, canceled the games without notice, leaving the athletes stranded, it is vitally important for as many people to participate even at this short notice.  Also keep in mind; the games are being planned from scratch by the athletes with less than one year from the start date of the 2012 Games.

We are hoping that you will see the importance of being loyal to the The Transplant Games, and not to the agencies who left the athletes stranded across the nation, completely without notice.

The distance to Grand Rapids from Cleveland is 299 miles, and from Columbus is 323 miles and from Cinci is 350 miles.  Which if you remember is much shorter than driving to Madison, Wisconsin.

There are two regional captains for Team Ohio.  In the northern region, the captain is David Grier and in the southern region the captain is David Hague.

Fund Raising

Fund raising currently will be held in 2-3 regions in Ohio and we are planning to ask the local OPOs and transplant centers to play a much greater part in the planning.  Your fund raising ideas will be greatly appreciated!  We need help for planning for the fund raisers, even if locating sponsors for the Games.

ANY and ALL ideas need to be explored to make this work!  We need your help to keep the Games and Team Ohio alive.
